A Volunteer Horse Leader's Role

As a Horse Leader, you will first attend a Volunteer Training Session to learn how to handle a horse, how to hold your lead rope, how to walk on, trot on and halt, how to change directions and change the side you lead from, and how to bring your horse up to the ramp or mounting block so your horse's rider can mount. You will also learn how to care for your horse in the barn, doing such things as grooming, saddling and bridling.

As a leader your job is very important. You are responsible for the management of the horse during the lesson and for following the directions of the instructor. The rider's safety is in your hands.

SARI horses are chosen for their gentleness and good manners, so you will find your time as a Horse Leader rewarding and fun!
