Program Instructor (permanent, part-time)

Program Instructor

Permanent, part-time

SARI Therapeutic Riding is seeking an addition to our Program Instructor team. The Program Instructor has a primary responsibility for ensuring safe, quality therapeutic equine
instruction as per SARI standards, policies and procedures.

Duties include:

  • teaching lessons within adaptive riding,
  • grooming,
  • Summer Campthe Britches programs, and any other program booking,
  • supervising and acting as a resource
    to volunteer instructors and exercise riders,
  • mentoring and providing training opportunities to
    volunteers, instructors, and/or exercise riders, and
  • assisting in horse care and training as needed.

Hours: This position has a part time schedule up to 24 hours per week. Ideal candidate will have flexible availability that includes daytime, weekends, and evenings.

Qualifications:

  • Experienced and competent horse handler and rider
  • Experience working with people with disabilities
  • Flexible, demonstrated ability to adapt to change
  • Willingness to teach long hours
  • Strong organizational and problem solving/decision-making abilities
  • Demonstrated confidence in a leadership role
  • Ability to independently and harmoniously as part of a team
  • CanTRA or PATH certification, or willingness to work toward
  • Education in related field an asset

Barn Staff

Permanent, part-time

SARI Therapeutic Riding is seeking an addition to our Barn Staff team. The Barn Staff have a
primary responsibility for horse care and facility maintenance on weekends and holidays. Barn Staff will provide primary care in the barn but may be required from time-to-time to support lessons, act as Second-On-Site and/or perform night checks.

Duties include:

  • Daily feeding of 20+ horses,
  • Mucking of stalls,
  • Turnout and turn-in,
  • Blanketing and bandaging as required,
  • Assisting equine practitioners,
  • Cleaning of lounge, office, and bathroom spaces,
  • Weekly and monthly tasks, and
  • Other duties as required

Hours: Weekends and holidays, as well as weekday vacation coverage as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience handling and caring for horses
  • Excellent stamina – standing/walking for long periods of time, lifting up to 40lbs and bending
  • Ability to function in a highly organized manner including prioritizing task lists
  • Good amount of flexibility, demonstrated ability to adapt to change
  • Ability to work alone and harmoniously as part of a team
