Occupational Therapy Services

We offer Occupational Therapy (OT) services on a discretional basis, with sessions running between 8-10 weeks.

Our OT programs incorporate hippotherapy, a treatment strategy that uses the movement of a horse to achieve therapy goals.

How does Occupational Therapy (OT) work?

Occupational Therapy (OT) treatments focus on how the movement of the horse impacts the whole person, providing input that the therapist can use to alter to physical, sensory, cognitive and emotional systems to address daily living skills.

Participants who are enrolled in our mounted programs (adaptive riding, hippotherapy, summer camp) and have an identified medical need (i.e. a disability, mental health diagnosis etc.) are assessed by our Occupational Therapist before they start in the program.

This allows us to get to know the participant, plan for their individual needs, and match them with the correct horse in our program. This is an important step on their adaptive riding/therapeutic journey, and our certified Occupational Therapist works with each individual participant to best assess their needs and goals.

What is Hippotherapy?

Hippotherapy is an evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning which uses the movement of a horse to engage sensory, neurological, motor and cognitive systems to achieve goals such as balance, coordination, or other fine motor skills.
