Big Britches

Big Britches is a pilot project created by SARI Therapeutic Riding. This pilot project is an integrated horsemanship club for individuals with or without a diagnosed special need aged 18 and older. The recreational program centers around the growth of autonomy, confidence, and self-esteem by incorporating activities that meet the needs of social, physical, and cognitive health.


The pilot project will include three main objectives:
Life Skills – Food preparation in the kitchen, barn chores, cleaning tack, barn laundry, caring for plants.
Leisure Activities - Nature walk, music, painting, drawing, board games, card games, gardening.
Equine Partnership - Grooming and caring for horse, leading horses in arena, watching demonstrations and learning of basic horsemanship such as designing and leading through courses, learning about horse colours, breeds, ages, and healthcare.

There will not be any horseback riding or mounted activities in this program.

Registration Details

  • All registration and payment will be online at sari.ca
  • Registration will open December 12.
  • Please share any relevant information that will assist us in making this is a positive experience for the participant i.e. behavioural/emotional details, assistive measures, etc.
     

Payment Details

  • Cost is $200 for the winter session.
  • Full payment will reserve the spot at time of registration.
  • Spots will not be reserved without payment.
  • No refunds will be given for missed dates.
  • Should a participant withdraw from the program prior to the halfway point (February 26), 50% of the total session fee will be refunded. No refunds will be issued past the halfway point.
